Page 2 of 2 - First Annual Open Book Awards: Stay Strong: Simple Life Lessons for Teens won award for Best Young Adult book. Terrie accepted award and spoke about the importance of youth and mentoring.
- National Black Public Relations Society – Chicago, IL: Terrie spoke to 600 students about the demands of the Public Relations business and the importance of mentoring. At this event, Terrie had a young woman, Erika Goodrich, shadow her for the day Xavier Artis, co-founder of SSF, later hired Erika as a director of PR for Recycling Inspiration and The Terrie Williams Agency.
- Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families Conference: Terrie addressed 200 philanthropists and requested that SSF spokesperson Reggie Hatchett, a 26-year-old she has mentored for the past five years, be added to the conference as a panelist along with Geoffrey Canada of Rheedlen Foundation.
- Terrie spoke about the benefits and importance of mentoring at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Luncheon. More than 300 attendees were present at this event located in White Plains, N.Y.
- Terrie was a guest speaker at ESSENCE magazine’s Women’s Leadership Summit in New York where she addressed an audience of 300 professional women. Terrie also allowed Loretta Castle Dixon, a student from Audrey Cohen College, to shadow her and attend all conference workshops.
- Brandeis University, Transitional Year Program: Terrie spoke about leadership skills, life challenges, and being successful in life and business. She spoke to 100 youth who were somewhat educationally deprived—these students spent a year of preparation at Brandeis before actually being accepted into the University.
- Public Relations Student Society of America Annual Conference: Terrie addressed more than 2000 attendees.
- International Initiative for Youth, Children & Families at Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.: More than 300 youth attended this event at which Terrie, Reggie Hatchett, and Xavier Artis spoke using Recycling Inspiration as the theme. As a result, the Foundation received a $50,000 grant.
- Terrie was a panelist at the HIV/AIDS seminar in Los Angeles entitled “The Cost and Casualty of Silence.” The event was aired on C-Span, and Terrie spoke about the effects of mental illness in the African American community.
- Terrie and SSF intern Ruxton McDougald spoke to students at Ditmas High School in New York. TW spoke to students about facing life issues and Ruxton was able to share his life story to younger students about having ADD and a hearing challenge.
